A drink driver was found to be five times over the legal limit after being stopped by police. The woman, from Wrexham, was reported by a concerned member of the public.

The 40-year-old, from the Rhosrobin area of Wrexham, was arrested on Saturday afternoon. A caller contacted North Wales Police (NWP) to report suspicions she was driving whilst under the influence of alcohol.

Officers at the scene took an alcohol reading which showed that she was just over five times the legal drink-drive limit. She was charged and remanded to appear before Wrexham magistrates on Monday (May 9).

In court, the woman was given a 12-month suspended sentence. She was also disqualified from driving for three years.

Afterwards, the NWP Roads Policing Unit thanked the person who reported their suspicions. “We’ll never know, but you’ve potentially saved a life,” said the team.

A spokesperson added: “If you suspect that someone is driving whilst under the influence, please let us know.”

Wrexham magistrates yesterday (May 10) banned another drink driver for 36 months. A Merseyside mum drove her seven-year-old son to a beach in North Wales while four times over the limit. You can see a video of her “erratic” driving here.

You can alert the police on 101 or via its online LiveChat facility. In an emergency, you should dial 999.
